Man, my eyes were all lit up when David brought up Bean. Even though it eventually become obsolete for me thanks to Notational Velocity and Pages, it was still an amazing app.
Great show, guys, as always. Funny thing: just yesterday, John Gruber plugged this FinalDraft reader app for iPad: http://quoteunquoteapps.com/fdxreader.
This was a great podcast. I couldn’t be further away from the LA movie scene if I tried, but it was great to hear how one industry participant works. It was also interesting to hear how in the end, it’s all work, with similar constructs and constraints – just with a different widget being built.
Hopefully this podcast illicits some more volunteers who would also like to share their workflows.
This was the best “Workflows” show yet. David is a real person who uses the Mac and iOS to do work, and not in vain like the pundits you’ve had before. Pease continue to feature photographers, writers, and other creative professionals on future shows. The Merlin Man types are fine, but this was more real-world usage. Also, he was clearer than the rambling and scattered Mann.
Thanks for the great show.
I just wanted to say congratulations on your 50th episode, you two. Not only should you be proud of the milestone, but also of the quality of this show and the quality of the overall product you’ve put together here.
People notice and appreciate Mac Power Users because of the combination of professionalism and passion you throw into it. This is how you’re able to draw such wonderful guests like David Wain. You deserve all of the success you’ve had, and I look forward to the next 50, 100, and 200 more shows.
Thanks for all you’ve taught us and for giving us something to look forward to every few weeks. I know I’ve taken so much away since episode one and have been able to share a lot of this knowledge with others.
Again, congratulations- do something nice for each other to celebrate!
Congratulations on your 50th show! This was a great show for the 50th episode. So interesting to hear David Wain talking about his workflow. He was a great guest and a real pleasure to listen to. He came on the show so well prepared and explained his workflow so well. Hope you’ll be able to get more guests like David on the show!
I just loved “where’s my ipad” sentence, as it clearly describes behaviour of my little girl.
Fantastic job, yet again.
One important note is that in LA, most studios will use Avid instead of Final Cut for a couple of reasons. First, it set the standard on NLE software. 2.- Its solid and robust. 3.- When you make a serious business, investing millions of dollars in a production, you want a company that will support the product. Unfortunately, there is no support provided by apple.
Avid has a great database for managing the media files, FCP has none.
FCP is intuitive, Avid is not.
I’ve used both and they certainly have their plus and minuses, but Avid has been rock solid for years and is only getting better.
Another great example of an excellent podcast. The workflows discussed were very enlightening and it was real cool that many of the mac apps and hardware, that everyone can buy or use, have the ability to support making a big production such as a movie.
One app that I found, as part of my returning to school and the fact my school uses google for calendar, mail, groups ,etc, was GooCal. David W. said he uses the google app and logs in to access his calendar on his ios devices. GooCal might be a better path. It looks similar to iCal on the iPhone and allows me to see and keep up with 4 separate calendars. If you have to live in both sides, this was the path that I took. Now you can have google calendars on the native ios cal app but if your like me and have to manage the calendars for your family, then you may want a way to delineate the work and family, GooCal might solve this.
Again thanks for yet another awesome podcasts. ?
Fantastic episode.
Great Show! Loved it.
Just a note for David regarding Final Draft being outdated and not very user friendly software to use. David might consider trying Celtx. I use it and it’s great for writing scripts and managing collaborative work. There are some great low cost add ons available as well.
